About Therapy

1121248859Welcome…

You’re in the right place.

Part of you is saying, “Do I really need a therapist? I can manage.” You might be right.

Maybe you can keep going the way you have been for a while… but at what cost?

It doesn’t have to be this hard – there’s a better way. You deserve support in making your life easier – whether that’s changing unhelpful behaviors, unhealthy relationships, or quieting that ever-punishing inner critic.

I’m here to help.

There are never enough hours in the day.

You’ve got personal, professional, and relationship commitments.

But don’t worry: I value your time. I know you’ve got a life outside therapy, and I’m here to help you optimize.

I’m a “what you see is what you get” type of therapist.

I use warmth, empathy, and sometimes a little humor to help you get where you want to be. I’m here to be your advocate alongside you as you make meaningful changes in your life.

During session, nothing has to be too polished. The human condition is complicated, and it’s all welcome here.

1095688061You’ve built a life for yourself…

My job is to help you enjoy it. We can help you quiet that inner critic, so you actually get to be present within your relationships, your family, your professional, and your personal life. You deserve it.

We’ll work as collaborators: You are the expert on your history, internal experience, and what you want your life to look like; I’m the expert at helping you achieve your goals in an easier, more fulfilling way.

After a few sessions together…

You’ll notice that your internal dialogue outside of session starts to shift to a more compassionate voice, and that voice will make you more successful in the things that matter to you most.

That new, nicer inner voice might feel uncomfortable at first. It might be hard to let go of that harsh inner critic, but it will make all the difference in sustaining positive, meaningful change for yourself.

I’ll be with you every step of the way.

About Me

About JuliaI love what I do.

I feel incredibly grateful to work with people every day who are willing to challenge unhelpful thought patterns, relationships, and behaviors and who want to start living differently.

I am honored to be a part of your process.

Some of my credentials and experience…

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC).

I received my undergraduate degree at Tulane University in New Orleans and my graduate degree at the University of Chicago. Beyond my formal education, I’ve received extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), and Motivational Interviewing. I am a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).

Before working in private practice, I worked in residential and day treatment for substance use, mood disorders, and eating disorders. I’ve worked alongside people in some of the most vulnerable times of their lives.

When I’m not in session…

You can find me spending quality time with my family by the water, on a run, listening to a podcast, or on my endless hunt to find the best spicy tuna hand roll.

I take every chance I can get to visit New Orleans and Chicago. It’s hard to beat the live music or food in either spot.

It’s not easy to show up to a therapist’s office and say, “It’s time for me to change my life.”

I have the utmost respect for that kind of bravery.
